Not that I agree with DJ Fred's idea that New Year's Resolutions are for chumps, I don't.  I think it is great to set goals and plan how to fulfill your dreams, which I know you can. Comes the question though, if fitness is your desire do you benefit from a gym membership. Most of the time I agree with Roger, it is a bit of a ruse.

I have belonged to several gyms over the years and have found 2 things to be true, 1) I need to have a partner to want to go and 2) going needs to fit in to my regular routine and 3) if I go home and dare to sit down before I go it is all over, hence go in the morning or before I get home.  When all the criteria were met I went and it worked.

Now that said, over the years Roger is right, I have chosen more not to go than to go. And yes I had to go back and fight for them to credit my card when they automatically renewed my membership without my permission, except for the small print on the contract.

However what I do find is that choosing things I like to do i.e. walking with a friend or audiobook I will do on a regular basis and because I enjoy it there is not hardship in keeping it up.  The other things need to be in place though. Could I do more, of course but exercise like calories is cumulative and so doing what I will do regularly is still better than nothing so I do. Just like cutting out one high calorie thing a day will have an effect even if you change nothing else.  We can do this. Happy New Year.
