In my mind there are certain things that mark the fall season here in Maine, school starting, apple picking, leaves changing, and Homecoming Weekend at the University of Maine in Orono Alumni Association’s Craft Fair.

Now last year many were simultaneously happy and sad. Happy because the University did a long overdue overhaul on the field house and sad because during reconstruction we could not have the craft fair that kicks off the shopping season for so many.

And happy day homecoming weekend is here and the craft fair is back on the roster. Some of the things I love about this show is that the UMaine Alumni Association really stresses Maine Made products and also because vendors know they’ll be getting shoppers from students to very successful alums their price points generally go from low to whoa, so there is something affordable for everyone.

*Admission is $1.00, children under 12 free, and UMaine Students with UMaine ID card free.  Parking is at the Collins Center for the Arts.  Shuttle bus to the field house will be available both days.

The fair runs Saturday Oct. 18  10:00 am - 5:00 pm and Sunday Oct. 19  10:00 am - 4:00 pm.  I’ll even be back there broadcasting live on Saturday morning.

There will be food for sale too so plan to have lunch on site.

There are many events going on for Home Coming of course and if you’re a football fan the Black Bears will be taking on Albany at 12:30 on Saturday.

*Much of the monies raised at the fair by the alumni Assoc. goes towards scholarships.
