Janis Joplin is probably one of my favorite women of rock. I think that I relate only too well to her alienation in school and struggle with self-esteem and regardless she rose to fame and truly gave a little of herself away in every performance.

My personal favorite Mercedes Benz I remember singing in my youth, so I am excited to see its inclusion in the tribute to be held at the Penobscot Theatre.
It is called 'A Piece of Her Heart: A Tribute to Janis Joplin' and it will run in Bangor June 4-7.
Penobscot Theatre describes it: "This one-woman show, a concert piece, Indianapolis-based artist Karen Irwin takes the audience on a musical journey through her own personal transformation as inspired by her musical idol, Janis Joplin. Joplin used her “un-girly” voice and her no-holds-barred, blues-inspired performance style to triumph over her personal and social adversities, forever changing the face of women in music. With anecdotes and Joplin songs including “Mercedes Benz,” “Piece of My Heart,” and “Bobby McGee,” Irwin pays homage to the musical icon and delivers a rocking good time."

The Bangor-based band Rock Revelation featuring Heather Astbury-Libby will open each show.
