Jefferson Airplane Drummer Killed in Car Crash

Joey Covington sadly died in a car crash yesterday in Palm Springs, California.

Covington wasn’t wearing a seat belt when his Honda Civic slammed into a retaining wall. A guest staying at a nearby hotel was unsuccessful in resuscitating him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Covington played drums for Jefferson Airplane from 1970-1972. Joey was a self taught drummer and remembered as ‘a kind, considerate and jovial’ person.

Jefferson Starship shared their condolences on the band’s Facebook page.
