Construction workers toiled through the night to secure the roof at John Bapst Memorial High School after a fire at the building on Wednesday. Now, the Head of School, Mel MacKay says classes will resume on Monday.

MacKay gave thanks to firefighters from several towns, including Bangor's John York who was injured when the roof collapsed, and the folks at Nickerson and O'Day Construction for their efforts in saving the school and getting it back in working order. Bangor Police also received thanks for their professionalism.

A maintenance worker accidentally sparked the fire yesterday while using a propane torch to melt ice and snow on the building. Crews from many surrounding towns responded to the 3-alarm fire and worked together to minimize the damage.

MacKay said in the following Facebook post that plans are on-schedule for the school to reopen on Monday, when students are due to return from their winter break.
