Heads up if you're planning on climbing Katahdin.

Baxter State Park announced the closure of the Abol Trail today. The 2.8 mile trail will closed for the rest of the season. The park says landslide activity is the reason behind the closure.

The Abol Slide experienced a lot of debris movement over the winter, making it more unstable. Park officials say search and rescue operations would be too dangerous with the current condition of the slide. In addition, trails to and from Chimney Pond are closed for now.

'Hikers on the trail will be subject to summons and billed for cost reimbursement of any search and rescue expense incurred on their behalf.'

Katahdin’s Hunt, Knife Edge and Helon Taylor Trails are now open.
