A man is behind bars after police responded to a report of a domestic assault. Witnesses say the man had a knife and attacked the woman in the driveway of an apartment house.

Sgt Tim Cotton with the Bangor Police Department said in a press release today that the call came in just before five o'clock this morning. Witnesses said that a man was in a driveway with a knife and was assaulting a woman.

When officers arrived, they were told the man had dragged the woman into an apartment and that he had a large hunting knife and a cane. Witnesses said the suspect had also threatened to kill the neighbors as they tried to stop his attack.

When the officers tried to make contact with the suspect, he refused to open the door. Police entered the apartment and found Gary Dorion, age 51 of Bangor, inside a tent set up on a bed. The woman was with him and was injured.

Dorion was arrested and is charged with Domestic Violence Assault, Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon, and possession of Schedule Z Drugs. He's scheduled to appear in court in October.
