Not long after trading Jon Lester to the A's, the Red Sox have sent John Lackey to the St.Louis Cardinals. In return the Sox get OF/1B Allen Craig and pitcher Joe Kelly.Reports have the Sox sending a minor league player to St.Louis as well.

Lackey is 11-7 with a 3.60 ERA this year. Next year his salary is supposed to be a $500,000 deal as part of the multi-year deal he signed four years ago.

Allen Craig is a 30-year-old righthanded hitting outfielder/first baseman. Craig is having a down year, .237 with 7 HR and 44 RBI. He is coming off two outstanding seasons of hitting over .300. Craig is under team control for three more years at a total of $25-million dollars.

Joe Kelly is a 26-year-old righthanded pitcher in his second year in the majors. He is 2-2 with a 4.27 ERA. Hamstring issues have kept him on the sidelines for much of this year. Kelly was 17-14 with a 3.25 ERA last season with St.Louis. He is earning just over $500,000 and is under team control through 2019.
