Lawn Mower Drag Races Come To Maine – Yeah It’s A Thing

So where you ask can a person watch grown men on souped up lawn mower fly down a track That would be at the Union Fair and Wild Blueberry Festival which kicks off this Friday.

The Union Fair webpage proclaims proudly of this agricultural fair that is has been celebrating everything Maine for 147 years.

Different from other fairs in Maine the Union Fair combines itself with the Wild Blueberry Festival including a Maine Wild Blueberry Queen Coronation and blueberry pie eating contests. The event that runs from this weekend through next also has live music, harness racing, the Wine Pavilion, fireworks,  2 Demolition Derbys, exhibits, food,  demonstrations & shows, the Midway, 4-H, sheep dog trials, lots of food, the Matthews Museum, and new this year,  Lawnmower Drag Racing.

For Skynyrd fan you may want to take the trek on Sunday to see the Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band Vyntage Skynyrd at 7 pm.

The Demolition Derby is this weekend and the Lawn Mower Drag Races will close the show next weekend 8/25 & 26.  See the full schedule here.

There is also camping available in the fairgrounds. And directions from Bangor area say to head down US RTE 1 in Belfast take RTE 3 West to Belmont. Turn left onto RTE 131 South to Union (approx. 15 miles). Turn left on RTE 17, then a quick right (Common Rd.). Look for Union Fairgrounds entrance on right 1/10 mile.
