Maine lawmakers have unanimously approved legislation delaying the retail sale of marijuana in the state.

The legislation also makes it clear that individuals younger than 21 can not possess marijuana in Maine.

Individuals 21 and older can still grow and possess marijuana starting Monday.

The law approved by voters in November gave policy makers nine months to develop and implement rules regulating the retail sale of marijuana.

The bill approved by legislators Thursday gives policy makers three additional months to implement the rules, extending that deadline to Feb. 2018.

The bill now heads to Gov. Paul LePage's desk for his signature.
