Dick Curless was a country singer-songwriter from Maine that mainly wrote songs about the trucking industry, remember "A Tombstone Every Mile?"  Well, he also wrote and performed a very solemn song about a fallen police officer that really hits home today.

"Maybe in your town or mine, while we slept in comfort behind our locked doors, a cop put his life on the line."

The recent shootings in Dallas and Baton Rouge have given us both heavy hearts and renewed respect for those men and women that protect our Maine cities and towns, and Curless, a true Mainer who was born in Fort Fairfield, exudes that respect from these timeless lyrics.

"He answered the call, and of himself gave all, and a part of America died. Somebody killed a policeman today."

The album called "Stonin' Around" was released in 1972, and little did Dick Curless know when he wrote those lyrics what our men and women in blue would be up against today.
