It is coming up this weekend and Bangor natives now have a little skin in the game…pumpkin skin that is.

I was reading in the BDN about "Peanut" A pumpkin from record setting roots. Owner of  the prize gourd weighing in at 800 lbs say the seed came from a 1695 pound pumpkin that last year set the state record.

Peanut the pumpkin was grown in the Bangor Community Garden by Whitty and Dale Hartt. The Hartts have packed up Peanut (No small feat I can imagine) and plan to head to Damaiscotta where the Damaiscotta Pumpkin Festival and Regatta may see Peanut racing, floating or flying, cause with those folks when it comes to pumpkins you just never know. Hey,just last weekend they judged the heaviest pumpkin this year that weighed in at 1725.5 lbs winning a $10,000 prize according to the webpage won by Edwin Pierpont . WOW!

Still to come this weekend including Columbus Day the pumpkin parade, pumpkin derby and the regatta on Monday.

Not familiar with the concept of a pumpkin boat or racing?  Watch this little Sunday Morning video and I think you may need to head to the coast this weekend and see for yourself.
