Here’s a tip to save a few bucks that you may have not thought about before. When you go grocery shopping, chew gum. Or, wear headphones. Both of these things are likely to reduce the amount of money you drop in the checkout line.  Stores have a number of tricks that they use to get you to buy more; they pump great smelling scents and play music designed to make you feel so comfortable you want to stay in the store even longer. The longer you stay, the more you spend. Gum and headphones are your defenses!

Other interesting ideas were:

Any time you want to get something  you want not need think how many hours you had to work to have whatever it is and then judge if it's worth it.

Plan to add a chunk to your 52 week savings from you tax refund and get a jump on it.

Designate a part of your change back from purchases to go into a savings envelope.  For example one person he stashed away a $5 bill each time he'd get one in his change back.
