Anyone that has traveled our state during the summer months knows that Maine is one of the best travel destinations in the world!  But if you don't believe it, then just check out Fodor's Travel 2016 Go List!

The annual Go List highlights 26 can't-miss locations around the world that every traveler should have on their radar when planning trips in the coming year.

Within the list Maine joins countries and places like Sicily, Abu Dhabi, Guam, Bavaria, Taipei, Palm Springs, Nepal and Philadelphia.

When talking about Maine as a destination, the site says, "The 100th anniversary of Acadia National Park in 2016 corresponds with the centennial of the National Park Service, inspiring year-long celebrations of this landmark on Mount Desert Island, known for its mountains and rugged coast."

In a press release Governor Paul LePage said, "To be selected as a Go List destination by such a well-respected travel organization sets Maine apart and is further recognition of the notable achievements of our tourism-related businesses in providing outstanding visitor experiences."

In the listing it's not just Downeast Maine that grabs all of the accolades, it goes on to say, "Portland’s sizzling food and craft beer scene attracts national attention, and in popular coastal towns like Camden, stylish updated lodgings such as the Whitehall are freshening Maine’s appeal."
