A Maine woman who police say abducted her two young children after losing custody of them was apprehended in South Carolina. She allegedly took the children from a supervised visit after losing custody of them.

Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey said 34-year-old BethMarie Retamozzo was arrested at a rest stop on I-95 in South Carolina around 10:15 Saturday night. Her children, 7-year-old Joslyn Retamozzo, 6-year-old Joel Retamozzo and a 2-year-old daughter, are safe and in the custody of South Carolina human services officials.

Waterville police obtained an arrest warrant for Retamozzo on Friday on two counts of felony criminal restraint by a parent after she allegedly took her two older children during a supervised visit on Thursday. Police said the children’s grandmother has court-ordered custody of them.

Maine police are working with South Carolina officials to have Retamozzo brought back to Maine to face charges.
