This was an interesting little study done to see which states got the most Holly and Jolly this time of year.

The group is GetCenturyLink and figure out which states had the most Christmas spirit they looked at date in two categories 1) online activity and 2) area culture.

The things that weighed in the most according to their site were.

Google searches for Christmas movies and gingerbread houses (29%)

Google shopping trends for wrapping paper, Christmas cards, Christmas ornaments, and “Elf on a Shelf” (28%)

Christmas music streaming (14.5%)

Tweeting about Christmas (7%)

Number of Christmas tree farms per capita (7%)

Charitable giving (14.5%)

See where your state ranks in celebrating the most wonderful time of the year! The number one ranked state has the most Christmas spirit and is dark red on the map.

New England States came in with these rankings:

  1. Maine 5th
  2. Rhode Island 16th
  3. Massachusetts 21st
  4. Vermont 28th
  5. New Hampshire 31st
  6. Connecticut 33rd

Across the entire U.S. the top 5 were:

  1. Washington
  2. South Dakota
  3. Utah
  4. Missouri
  5. Maine
