Fourth time's the charm?

Rep. Diane Russell has been pushing for the legalization of marijuana use for several years now. Her forth bill to legalize and tax pot will be heading to the Maine Legislature. Under her bill, weed would be handled identically to alcohol. Maine liquor inspectors would also assume the monitoring role for marijuana.

Russell says marijuana legalization is inevitable, and that the state should be prepared to set policies.

Schools in Maine could benefit immensely from pot legalization according to Russell. She says tax collected from recreational marijuana could be used to pay for building new schools and remodeling old schools.

In 2014, legalized pot in Colorado has generated over $45 million in taxes. The money has been used for infrastructure repairs to improving schools.
