Senator Susan Collins, who is also a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement yesterday; "This is the worst attack on our country since 9-11-01 and the worst mass shooting in our history.  I am heartbroken for the loved ones of the victims of this horrifying act of terrorism. If the FBI's investigation confirms allegations that the attacker pledged his allegiance to ISIS or if he proves to have been a lone wolf, this attack is yet another stark reminder that the United States is not immune from the threat of violent extremism. Thank you to the brave first responders for their work to respond to this attack."

Bruce Poliquin, Maine’s 2nd District Congressman also released this statement yesterday; " My heart and prayers are with everyone involved in this horrific terror attack in Orlando late last night. This is a national tragedy.  We must combat radical terrorism at every turn and strengthen our national security to protect Americans at home and abroad.”

U.S. Senator Angus King, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee said this yesterday on his website: "Today, our hearts are filled with grief. Like all Americans, I condemn this reprehensible attack. The victims, their families, those who were injured, and all those affected remain in my thoughts and prayers. In this dark moment, I am grateful to the law enforcement officers whose swift and courageous actions saved the lives of many.

“As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, I have been briefed on the attack and I have asked to receive regular updates throughout the day as the investigation continues and as more information becomes available.

“As we remember and mourn those we lost today, let us stand united in the face of hatred and violence. Let us join together to show that, although our hearts may be broken, our love for one another remains strong.”

Governor Paul LePage said this in a press release today; "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims who were killed or injured in this senseless and horrific attack,” said Governor LePage. “Ann and I send our condolences and pray for the safety and recovery of all those affected by this unspeakable tragedy.”
