Maine State Police Apprehend Escaped Inmate [UPDATE]

The Maine State Police are looking for an inmate of the Charleston Correctional Facility who walked away from a work site today (June 21).

According to WCSH, the inmate's name is Jonathan Edman, and police say he walked away from a work site at Kingsbury Pond on Route 16, and was believed to be heading towards the Skowhegan area.

Maine State Police and the Maine Warden Service have sent troopers and wardens to the area, including tracking dogs and a plane. Edman was serving time for assault and tampering with a witness and should be considered dangerous, said Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland. Anyone seeing him should call State Police in Bangor at 973-3700 or 911.

According to information from the Maine Department of Corrections, Edman is 20 years old, 6-feet, 1-inch tall and weighs 190 pounds, with blue eyes and sandy hair. He was sentenced in March 2016 on two counts of assault, one count of tampering with a witness and one count of domestic violence assault. The DOC website lists his earliest custody release date as May 2017.
