Police arrested a man on Monday after he fired a gun near a neighbor's house. Turns out, he's a convicted felon who's prohibited from owning firearms.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says Guy Schultz, age 43 of Leeds, is charged with possessing a number of guns. He was arrested Monday after he fired a gun close to his neighbor's property. Schultz told State Troopers he was shooting at a rat.

Troopers ran a check on Schultz's history and learned that he had a felony burglary conviction from 1991, prohibiting him from owning any firearms. Found inside his home was what police called 'an arsenal' of handguns, rifles, shotguns, and silencers.

Schultz was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail. Agents from the federal bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms assisted at the scene.
