Alleged bank robber John Slater is in custody. Police have been looking for the career criminal for weeks.

WMTW-TV in Portland reports that John C. Slater, age 66, was taken into custody Wednesday. So far, no details have been released about the way he was apprehended.

Court records state that Slater robbed $15,000 from the Bank of Maine branch in Hallowell after handing a bank employee a note that read:

'Im Here to Rob your Bank, no silent Alarms my cell phone rings, your all dead, I have a hand grenade, and a gun, no marked bills, or inked, if so, one day I will come back and kill all of you, do you understand.???'

Slater has a long criminal history, including a conviction for raping two teenage girls, one under the age of 14. He's due in court today (July 10th). Slater faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
