Students and families will gather to demand "that their lives and safety become a priority, and that we end gun violence in our schools and communities", according to the March For Our Lives website.

Here are the locations and times for the local events, part of 817 and counting worldwide that will happen this Saturday, March 24th. All events will feature speakers from varying organizations and groups. Click on the links below to register.

Orono: Church of Universal Fellowship, 82 Main St. 8:30 a.m.

Orono:  University of Maine on the Mall, University of Maine.  10 a.m.

Bangor: Abbott Square, 148 Harlow Street, Bangor - (across the street from the Bangor Public Library).

Belfast:  Belfast Unitarian Universalist Church, 37 Miller Street.  3 p.m.

March For Our Lives: An Act to Protect & Save Your Children has three goals in mind, according to their site:

Ban assault weapons like the ones used in recent mass killings.

Prohibit the sale of high-capacity magazines used by the shooters.

Closing loopholes in background checks.
