He has only played 6 games in each of the last two season but Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo has restructured his deal to stay with the team for the upcoming season.Mayo has a $4.5 million dollar injury guarantee for the upcoming season that team would have to pay him if they let him go. Instead the team has dropped his non-guaranteed salary of $7 million and will pay him the $4.5 million with incentives that could bump him up to $6 million.

Mayo will also have options for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. The move will save the team nearly $6 million on the salary cap that could be used for contract extensions to younger players such as Jamie Collins, Nate Solder or Chandler Jones.
