Hard to imagine, but well in excess of 1200 runners will participate in this year's Mount Desert Island Marathon! We're sure that the allure of Maine's beautiful scenery and Acadia National Park have something to do with it!

Area hotels will be sold out for what New England Runner Magazine called the "Race of the Year!".

The full Marathon runs 26.2 miles between Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor, Sunday, October 16th.  There's also a Half-Marathon, a Team Relay, a Public Safety Relay, and a Kid's Run.  To sign up, go HERE!

The race departs Main Street in Bar Harbor at 8AM, and will follow the following route.

The Marathon has grown in popularity since 2002 and folks from 47 states attended last year's Run.  Michael Crouch, a 27 year-old from Chicopee, MA, won last year's Marathon in the men's division with a time of 2:26:55. By the way, Ellsworth's Louis Luchini has won the division three times since 2002!  Leah Frost from Vermont won the women's division with a time of 2:49:44. It was the second time that she has won.
