MDI High School and Orono High School made the top 10 of a newly released list of the best public high schools in Maine for 2015.

Yarmouth High School took the top spot in the Maine list, followed by Falmouth High School and Cape Elizabeth High School. MDI placed sixth, and Orono placed seventh on the list, released Monday by Niche, a company which uses government data and opinion-based surveys from students, alumni and parents to determine its rankings.

Hampden Academy came in at No. 11. Bangor High School came in at No. 19 in the state. Other area high schools that made the list include Brewer High School (No. 32) and Ellsworth High School (No. 33.)

No Maine school placed among the top 100 schools in the nation. High Technology High School in Lincroft, NJ, was the nation's top public high school.

The survey measured each school in eight categories, with academics accounting for 50 percent of the grade. Other categories included health and safety, teachers, facilities, and student culture and diversity.

The site also ranked the best private high schools in Maine. On that list, John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor ranked seventh.
