The entire 5 mile length of I-395 that runs between Bangor and Brewer will be refurbished beginning sometime in May.  The work will not be completed until late summer.

If you travel the popular corridor that thousands of tourists will this summer, then you've taken notice of the ruts that have appeared in the road.  Officials with the DOT are concerned that those ruts collect water when it rains which make driving very tricky.  Hey, they're tricky enough when they're dry!

So the entire roadway will be overhauled.  The pavement will be ripped up, the road leveled off, and then the pavement will be replaced.  Culverts and broken guardrails will be replaced, and in certain areas lighting will be added.

During the day, all traffic will be able to flow in both directions, although at night lanes may be closed and traffic may be diverted. Expect to drive over a lot of rough pavement where the road has been milled.  One by one, on or off ramps will be closed when being worked on.

The entire cost of the project is $5.2 million.
