I-95 Southbound in Pittsfield is back open after a multi-vehicle accident closed the southbound lane near Exit 146 for part of the morning.

Traffic backed up for miles immediately after the crash and MDOT crews set up a detour that took motorists 15 miles out of their way. Motorists were advised to avoid the area.

Again, the southbound lane of I-95 in Pittsfield has been reopened to traffic. However, MDOT officials say traffic through that stretch of the interstate will be slow-moving at times, so motorists are advised to allow for extra time.

There's no word yet on the details of the crash.

We'll update this post with more information when it becomes available.
