Next weekend Medway will be roaring with snow machines!

The Northeast Winter National Ice Drag Races are set for January 18th and 19th! The annual event is put on by the East Branch Sno-Rovers and Katahdin Area Snowmobile Racing Affiliates. Both groups have been busily grooming a 2,200 ft drag strip, one of the only land based, ice covered drag strips in the country. It will allow rider the opportunity to put their sleds to the test!

Snowmobiles will rocket down the track at speeds topping out at 150 miles-per-hour. At those speeds safety is a top priority. Riders have to wear helmets and eye protection, and their sled must have a tether switch, snow flap, windshield and pass a safety inspection.

Race registration begins at 7 AM, Saturday the 18th, at the East Branch Sno-Rovers Clubhouse. Qualifying rounds begin at 11AM.

Public admission is $5 each day. Children under 12 are in for free but must be accompanied by an adult. You can get an up close look at the competing sleds with pit passes for $5 each.
