The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has decided not to enter into another contract with the company that produces the TV show “North Woods Law.”

The popular Animal Planet series features Maine game wardens on the job.

The Bangor Daily News reports the show won’t continue beyond next season and it will come to an end sometime next year.

Maine Game Warden Col. Joel Wilkinson tells the BDN a decision was made in-house not to renew the show's contract.

“When we looked at the goals of our project, which was to bring awareness [to] the general public and the sporting public of the duties of wardens and what they do, we feel we met that kind of goal for us," Wilkinson said.

Wilkinson says the warden service has a great relationship with Engel Entertainment, the company that produces the show for Animal Planet, and the decision to move on from the series doesn't mean the warden service was unhappy with how the show was going.
