A rare chance to see the Northern Lights tonight.

Tonight parts of Maine get a 'fair' view of the Northern Lights. Weirdly enough, all of Aroostook County is mapped as having poor visibility tonight. Best viewing should be between 10PM-2AM. You can see the forecast all mapped out via AccuWeather.com.

Parts of the lower 48 could see the Aurora Borealis all week.

The sun is flinging an influx of charged particles at the Earth right now. It's cool, no worries. These electrons are colliding into our atmosphere and being pulled to the Earth's magnetic poles. As they travel through the atmosphere they emit energy in the form of light. Boom, Aurora Borealis. A more nerdy explanation can be found here.
