Old Town House Fire Kills Two Children, One Adult [UPDATE]

A woman and her two children died in an Old Town house fire overnight.

The State Fire Marshal's Office said neighbors discovered the fire just after 10 p.m. Monday of a house fire on Bradbury Street. When crews arrived, the garage was fully engulfed, with heavy fire in the house, as well.

Firefighters learned that there were people trapped inside, but told reporters the fire was just too hot and the smoke too heavy to save the family. One adult that lives in the residence was not home at the time of the fire.

According to a news release, firefighters found the children in an upstairs bedroom. They brought the boy and girl out of the house but resuscitation efforts were not successful. The woman's body was found in a first floor bedroom.

The bodies are being transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta for autopsies, according to police. Names are being withheld as family members are being notified.

Investigators from the State Fire Marshal's office will in Old Town to try and determine how the fire started. Crews from Bangor, Old Town, Orono, Milford, and Bradley responded to the blaze.
