One person is dead and three others injured after a single car crash Monday night. Police say the vehicle left the road on a straightaway just after 8:30, in the town of Troy.

According to Central Maine News, the driver of the car, 24-year-old Scott Anderson Jr. of Freedom, was killed in the crash. His three passengers, 20-year-old Casey White of Clinton, 19-year-old Jesse Weeman of Dixmont, and a 16-year-old female were all taken to the hospital. Police have not released the name of the youngest passenger.

The crash was reported at around 8:43 Monday night on the North Dixmont Road in Troy, just south of the intersection with Barker Road. Police say Anderson's Chevy Impala had veered off the road into a ditch and hit some trees. The accident occurred on a straightaway. Emergency crews took more than an hour extricating the victims from the vehicle.

The Sheriff's office is investigating what caused the crash but they believe speed may have been a factor.
