Driver Charged After Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Truck In Bar Harbor Parking Lot [UPDATE]

Police are investing after a truck on Route 3 veered into a parking lot, striking several vehicles and killing a pedestrian.

The white pickup truck veered into the parking lot of the Chart Room restaurant, according to police.

The truck's driver, Justin Shell, 36, of Virginia faces charges of manslaughter and driving to endanger. Shell reportedly told police he was sleep-deprived.

Connie Birkenmeier, 76, of Bar Harbor died at the scene.

The Mount Desert Islander reported that part of Route 3 was closed by police and traffic was being rerouted along Norway Drive and the Crooked Road.
