I can’t imagine that there is a person alive that hasn’t at least once had a poor night’s sleep or been up too many hours.  Exhaustion can really wreck your whole day, but there is good news if you can talk yourself into it or know someone who can you really got a good night's sleep.

Researchers at Colorado College have developed what they are referring to as  ‘placebo sleep’  In the study they devised a little lie that there was a new sleep technique and apparatus that would give them better REM sleep and measure sleep quality.

They were then told by the study coordinators that they had gotten a great night’s sleep.  And for some reason these individuals who thought they got a good night’s sleep performed much better on real tests that assessed their ability to listen and process information.

Generally speaking science has used placebos in many a study, the researchers feel this research proves again the importance of perception and the brain’s role in health.

The research was published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory and Cognition.
