There are 25 nesting peregrine falcons in the state of Maine, and coutesy of a live webcam feed set up by the Biodiversity Research Institute in Gorham, you can watch one of them.

Peregrine falcons are the fastest flying birds in the world, they can fly as fast as 200 mph! These beautiful and fast birds almost became extinct in Maine back in the 1960s courtesy of various pesticides used in the area.  They are now making a comeback!

The male Peregrine falcon builds a nest by digging somewhat of a hole in the rubble of a ledge, and the female usually lays its eggs in the early spring. Falcons return to the same nest site year after year. These falcons can live up to 20 years.
