After 19 years in business, locally owned Pet Quarters on Stillwater Avenue in Bangor is closing.  The store manager, Dustin Poirier recently told the Bangor Daily News that that competition from national pet stores that have set up on Stillwater Avenue is the reason for the closing.

Pet Quarters also has stores in Brunswick, Falmouth, Rockland, Scarborough, Waterville and Windham.  Bangor will be the only store to close. According to the Pet Quarters web site, the company will focus their energy on their six other locations.

Following the opening of Pet Quarters in 1994, two other pet supply franchises followed suit on Stillwater Avenue, Petco and Pet Smart.

Poirier says that the staff will "truly miss" their loyal customers.  The store's last day will be December 1st.

Twice a month the store would hold  veterinarian clinics and they would also hold special cat adoption events for the Bangor Humane Society.
