A little boy's pet fish was saved from his burning home last week as a result the fire department is receiving a Compassionate Fire Department Award from PETA for their efforts.

After knocking down a fire in Bangor at a home at Highland Court firefighters became aware the families young son's fish was still inside. This sent the firefighters back into the building to retrieve the soot covered tank with the unharmed fish inside.

As a result PETA is gifting The Bangor Fire Department with a box of vegan cookies, a framed certificate and a copy of “The Engine 2 Diet”  a Texas firefighter’s 28-day plan for staying in shape by eating a vegan-based diet.

PETA hopes this will inspire others to come to the aid of animals in need no matter what kind of critter they are.
