Phone Scam Hitting Bangor Water Customers

There's a new phone scam hitting the city, specifically taking aim at customers of the Bangor Water District.  Here's the gig:

Callers "from away" are contacting customers and either telling them that they've missed a payment or that a payment cannot be processed.  It is then suggested that the customer purchase a prepaid debit card and to call back with the necessary information. If a caller does indeed call back, the call is answered by a person identifying themselves as being from the Bangor Water District.

Of course it's all bogus.

Real folks from the Bangor Water District remind their customers that their current account status is located on the back of the bill that they mail you.  You can also call them at their actual number which is 947-4516.
