A small plane made an emergency landing on I-295 in Bowdoinham Tuesday morning.

Maine Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said the plane touched down in the southbound lane just after 10 a.m. It collided with a guardrail off the breakdown lane, which pulled the tail off the ground. The pilot walked away from the wreck.

State Police say southbound traffic has not been disrupted, although the road may be reduced to one lane later, when decisions are made about how to remove the aircraft from the highway. Drivers should be prepared for some slowing of traffic, however, as passersby look at the plane.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
