Police on Friday identified the woman found dead on the side of Route 193 in Cherryfield.

The deceased is named Sally Shaw, 55, according to Maine State Police Lt. Troy Gardner.

Shaw is believed to have ties to the Downeast area and southern Maine, Gardner said at a news conference in Bangor.

A vehicle found 11 miles north of the spot where Shaw's body was discovered Wednesday morning has been towed to the state police crime lab, where it is undergoing tests.

The vehicle, a 2017 Chevy Impala, was rented in Bangor under Shaw's name, Gardner said. The vehicle, which appeared to have been involved in a crash, was found at the intersection of routes 9 and 193.

Police are treating the death as a homicide. The cause of Shaw's death has not been released.

The investigation is ongoing. Police ask anyone with information about Shaw to contact them at 973-3700.
