Police on Tuesday responded to a report of a naked man, standing near the road, throwing things at cars. Before they arrived on the scene, a local resident reported someone was trying to break into her house.

Old Town Police Sergeant Michael Hashey said in a press release that officers were sent to a residence on the Bennoch Road for a report of a male subject who was out of control and possibly on bath salts. Other callers reported that the man was outside naked, and throwing things at passing cars.

While police were on their way to the scene, dispatch got another call from a woman a few houses away from the original call. She told police a male subject was forcing his way into her house by breaking a window out of the door. She said she thought the man had managed to get inside and then fled out another door into the woods.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they found Derrick Beal, age 30 of Old Town, naked from the waist down and acting erratically. Police used a Taser while taking Beal into custody. Despite that, he continued to resist and had to be restrained.

Beal was taken to the hospital by Old Town Ambulance with Police on board. The homeowner was found uninjured in the woods. Police checked the woman's house and found that he window had been broken but Beal had not yet made entry into the house.

Charges are pending. Old Town Police were assisted by Orono Police, Veazie Police, and the State Police.
