A suicide in Orland Tuesday night prompted a response from multiple agencies and led to the closure of a portion of Route 1.

Hancock County deputies responded to a report of an accidental shooting around 7:10 p.m.

The first deputy to arrive on the scene heard another gunshot and called for backup.

The area was secured, and Route 1 was shut down between the Big Apple store and Back Ridge Road.

Turns out the person who had called 911 committed suicide after the first deputy arrived, police told WVII/WFVX.

A number of law enforcement agencies assisted the sheriff's office at the scene, the Maine State Police, the Maine Warden Service, the Maine Marine Patrol, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office.
