A 12-year-old boy was taken into custody after Bangor Police say he recently stole a bus and drove around the city.

In a Thursday Facebook post, the Bangor Police said the incident was reported by a motorist and his girlfriend  who observed the bus operating erratically on the west side of the city.

John W. St. Germain III and his girlfriend saw the young man driving a bus and called police, according to the post.

"The description was, big blue bus with a kid driving. We knew exactly what to look for," Bangor Police Department Sgt. Tim Cotton said in the post.

Not only did they report the incident, according to police, St. Germain actually jumped in the bus and took control when it stopped the intersection of Griffin and Ohio Streets.

His quick action earned St. Germain the Bangor Police Department Challenge coin. In the photo above, he is pictured receiving the award on Wednesday from Officer Jose Vidaurri.
