State police are asking for the public's help in identifying three people who broke into a Mount Vernon variety store Thursday night.

The trio broke into Flying Pond Variety on Route 41 just after 10 p.m., according to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Entry into the store was gained by smashing the glass front door, likely with a hammer, said public safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

One of the intruders has numerous cuts to his left arm and back, and has a tattoo on his forearm that reads “1976”.

Their getaway vehicle was a silver sedan with damage to the headlight area on the passenger’s side.

The thieves stole four bottles of liquor and about a dozen packs of cigarettes, McCausland said.

Anyone with information on the robbers is asked to call state police in Augusta at 207-624-7076.
