A 17-year-old runaway from Standish has died from injuries sustained in an Oklahoma accident, and now her boyfriend faces a murder charge.

Collette Boure and her 17-year-old boyfriend, Alexander Meyers, ran away together in October. The Portland Press Herald reports family members didn't know whether the teens had left the state and had no idea that they were in Oklahoma until they were notified by law enforcement officials that there had been 'an incident' and the couple had been involved in an accident during a high speed chase with police.

The details of what led up to the chase or why the couple was in Oklahoma are unclear, but the PPH reports that speeds reached upwards of 100 miles per hour before the accident. Meyers wasn't hurt but Boure was left in critical condition. She died of her injuries in a Texas hospital on Monday night.

Meyers was held overnight in juvenile detention and had been charged with juvenile eluding an officer. The Oklahoma District Attorney who has levied the charges against the teen says he will petition the court to change Meyers status to juvenile offender, and will charge him with second-degree murder for Boure's death. This could result in a sentence of 10 years to life in prison if convicted.
