The agreement has been finalized, and a new ferry service between Portland and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia will begin next year!

As we reported back in August, STM Quest, a joint venture between ST Marine Ltd., a Singapore-based shipbuilder, and Quest Navigation of Maine will run the 531 foot Nova Star, and they're extremely confident that the ferry service will be up and running by May 1st of next year.

The Nova Star will be the first ferry link between any Maine town and Yarmouth since The Cat ceased running back in 2009.

The Nova Star will depart Portland every night at 8 and arrive in Yarmouth at 7am the next day.  It will then depart Yarmouth at 9am and arrive in Portland around 5pm.  It will carry up to 1,250 passengers and 300 cars.

While at sea, riders will be able to enjoy the casino and theater!

Fares for the ferry service have yet to be determined. Officials in Portland expect the new service to draw folks from as far away as Boston.

Here's hoping that someday the Nova Star makes a stop in Bar Harbor too!
