Power Restoration Efforts Enter Second Day After Maine Storm

Efforts to restore power to Mainers affected by the winter storm that hit Maine Thursday night entered their second day, with about 2,500 households in the service area still without power.

Emera Maine is reporting that as of Saturday morning, there were 2,559 households without power, mostly in Penobscot, Hancock and Washington counties.

Since winter storm "Fortis" moved across Maine 24 hours ago, knocking out power to nearly 24,000 Emera Maine customers, crews have restored electric service to more than 21,000.

Emera said the majority of the remaining households should have power by 3 p.m. Saturday. Customers in remote areas may not have power restored by as late as 10 p.m.

As efforts enter their second day, the public is urged to slow down or move over and change lanes, when possible, if approaching utility crews working on roadways, to ensure everyone's safety.
