Pro pot supporters in Portland have launched a new advertising campaign promoting the "relative safety" of marijuana use as compared to alcohol.  The campaigns signs will be seen on the side of city buses.

The ads are being funded by the Marijuana Policy Project, a non-profit group that has targeted Maine as one of the states that could eventually legalize the recreational use of pot.

Each ad features a different adult explaining why he or she prefers marijuana over alcohol and asking why they should be punished for making the safer choice.

Some anti-drug groups in Portland oppose the campaign, saying that kids will be influenced by the advertisements.

This November in Portland, a question will be on the ballot asking voters if they would like to legalize the recreational use of marijuana in their city.
