We've done our best to avoid the potholes, and have waited in line far too long for a car to make a left hand turn.  That's all about to change beginning this Monday.

The Maine Department of Transportation will begin work on the Rte1A/Outer State Street project in Ellsworth this coming Monday, June 13th.

When construction is finally completed on the 1.1 mile stretch of much used road between the Union River Bridge and Forest Avenue, it will have two brand new intersections, a center turning-lane, and a new entrance to Ellsworth High School.

During the process, Emera Maine will install new utility poles, and the City will upgrade its water and sewer lines.

According to a press release from the Maine Department Of Transportation, "Crews will be working 24 hours a day between 7 p.m. Sunday nights through 7 p.m. Friday nights. Two-way traffic will be maintained on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. One lane of alternating traffic is allowed between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. on weekdays. From June 15 to September 15, work will be suspended every weekend between 7 p.m. on Friday through 7 p.m. on Sunday."

Work will end in the late Fall, and will restart again next Spring.  The project should be completed sometime in June of 2017.
