This spring State Street in Brewer will get some much needed refurbishing.  The heavily traveled road between the Penobscot Bridge and Wilson Street will get a new surface.

The Maine Department of Transportation will be in charge of the $580,000 project. The DOT will grind or mill the top layer of pavement off first and then resurface the street with new pavement.  Roadwork will begin in May and end sometime in June.

Brewer City Engineer Frank Higgns told the Bangor Daily News that he strongly encourages the DOT to do the majority of work during the night hours so that the very busy road will not have to be shut down during the day.

Higgins also said that he expects the City and the DOT to work on the railroad crossing between Mark's Music and Hartford's Garage, which is always an experience to drive over.
